That's because in the inner cities bikes are a legitimate form of transportation - by messengers, undocumented workers, and ...ahem...drug dealers

Plus the pimping lowrider bike thing is pretty big here in socal...so conceivably in rougher neighborhoods you might actually have more street cred on your bike (just chrome out your ksyriums )

Sad to say, but where I ride the attitude I get is primarily from the rich (white) kids in daddy's Acura rather than from the homies in the '77 Olds.
