A quick question: Is it adequate to lube your chain with JUST a water displacing lube? Most guides will state "apply water displacer, dry then apply a heavier dry chain specific lube".

The reason I ask is my chain seems pretty well lubed after just applying the water displacing stuff. If I run my finger over the links I get a distinct black smudge. It seems like over kill to me to apply a heavier oil on top of this, especially when I clean and lube once a week.
