Friday's eventful morning commute:
i ran into a co-worker on the MUT on friday morning (rare encounter in itself).
As we were chatting and riding slow, three other commuters passed us - nice guys, "on your left" and "morning" as they passed. a few seconds later the last guy in line ran right into the back of a women walking on the MUT, guess he was blinded by the sunshine and didn't see her, he wasn't speeding but was going at a pretty good pace. bad scene - both went down hard, bruised and bleeding. Women was hysterical, the cyclist was very apologetic and tried to calm her down. we (and other bikers passing by) stopped and offered to help but the women was really upset and inconsolable (understandable). I think she was OK, she was walking around - felt bad leaving after several minutes but she wasn't responding to our offers to call / walk / help, the cyclist who hit her said he was going to stay and make sure she was taken care of. bad situation, i felt really bad for both of them.
then my pedal broke, almost bit it hard when left foot unclipped as i had both hands up putting my glasses back on. couldn't clip back in (eggbeater spring broke) and had to ride one foot the rest of way - which is really bad on a fixed gear.
bought new pair of look keo classics at lunch for the ride home, tired of eggbeaters breaking (that was my 3rd pair that broke over the last few years) and have been wanting to try road pedals. first impression is i miss the float, but like the secured feeling of the keo's. felt like pedal stroke was more efficient. wasn't too hard to clip in / out.
