1. I would hold the judgment on very good shape of the 10-yr old saddle. Polymers break down over time - that's why child car seat and bike helmet replacement is recommended every 5 years or so. Ever found a pair of forgotten socks in the back of the drawer and elastic is all crunchy? Yep, same chemical process.
2. I ride a Specialized Jett, hard as cardboard on the outside, but I was fitted for it and it is surprisingly comfortable. Careful with tilting nose down: butt will tend to slide down - more pressure up front - push away from the bars to alleviate pressure - hand and wrist pain soon to follow. Thank Goddess I have a decent core, otherwise situation would have deteriorated further. I leveled sit bone platform part of the saddle and let nose fall where it may.

Good luck to you and yours
