As far as the skidding is concerned - it's all about technique. 48/16 shouldn't be terribly hard to lock up, provided you are lifting up with your front leg at the same time as you push down with your rear.

48/16 however only gives you one skid spot (per side if you can skid with both legs) and will lead to tires wearing out really quickly. I'd recommend 48/17 - 17 skid spots.
