i was having a small problem of the metal clips digging into the tops of my feet, and wearing adidas shelltoes solved that since they have a rubber toe.
to get more specific, there is a skate shoe called the adidas eldridge which is basically a shelltoe exactly, but its slightly narrower, which ive found to be my all time favorite shoe for track pedals and metal clips.
