I can average around 18.5 around my area. I live in the mountains though. I feel like 18 average is hauling it sometimes.
I ride with a guy that races in Cat1 Cross and Cat2 Road (used to be cat1 road but doesn't race road much more.) He can haul it when we ride. I would say he could average 20 mph on the roads we ride as long as there weren't any major climbs involved.
So what type of terrain do you guys ride on to average over 20 mph?
last Sunday afternoon: 49+ miles at 20.3 mph with 2200+ feet of climbing.
As to the OP, in 4 years of riding, I've seen my average climb from about 16 mph on that same route to the 20+ it is now with me being able to be up front and pulling the group along to achieve those speeds. Year 4 was the real breakout year for me when I dropped about 20 lbs and really increased my speed by about 2+ mph and was still useful later in the day to work on the honey-do lists.
