The "study" also mentioned that the authors would be looking at how carfree living and a sense of community would work together. Besides the scheduling apps that myrridin mentioned, I think of using social networking to help new people adapt to being carfree. Networking sites can also be used to organize rides, bike pooling, co-ops, and carfree social events. I also see people using the web to share routes and travel information, and I'd like to see that extended to mobile devices.
Unfortunately, I can't find a comprehensive report from the authors beyond the PDF brochure. Maybe this is a work in progress, or maybe it's only a marketing gimmick (as somebody suggested). Or maybe I'm just too stupid to find the report.
