Bikes: 1969 Raleigh Sports: The Root Beer Bomber

Veloria did a review of the Trek at some point, and really disliked it. Don't remember why...

The higher end Creme Cafe Racers have dyno hubs, but don't come in all the colors. Silly. All the models should come in all the colors, since the frame is essentially the same.

I don't know about buying a mixte frame and fixing it up. I'm hesitant to get into that boondoggle. I go back and forth on whether it's even worth the effort for me, as I don't wrench. Some days I get all excited and think: I could build up my ideal bike with a vintage frame and every componant I want! Then other days I think... I could spend $700 that way and end up with something that rides like crappola.

I love the Raleigh Sports. I'm putting aluminum rims on it next week, along with lowered gearing. It fits me perfectly, is easy to ride, and looks amazing to me, even in fairly beat-up shape. The Panasonic is beautiful and fits me fine, but isn't comfy for me as it's a race bike and my body isn't into that forward position anymore. This has become clearer and clearer to me since I got the new seat for the Raleigh and it's become so comfortable for me.

So I don't know what I'd want instead. Would a mixte be a good second bike? I don't know. Porteur? Maybe. I'd like more gears, but upright. Comfy, but slightly more aggressive than the Raleigh. Something I could ride a bit harder, and a bit longer.

Sigh. I am feeling indecisive again!
