Interesting question.
I'm highly skeptical of many technologies. In general, I'd say I favor a less technological approach.
I oppose cell phones and wireless internet with the same intensity as that with which I oppose car-culture (very intensely). Why? They bring greater dependence, disconnection, as well as potential sickness (irradiating the brain and other glands is not a good idea), as well as potential environmental troubles (some speculate that cellphones and other wireless technologies may be wreaking havoc on bees, for example).
For me, the bicycle is so great because I don't have to worry about schedules and timing so much. I can go and take whatever route I want and get where I need to go, whether it's 10, 20, or 50 miles away.
Here I am, on an internet forum, but I have no intension of owning a computer of my own. Not a fan of computers either, really. Some people talk about information. I think we should more often properly refer to it as "noise."
So, overall, no, not a big believer in tech as a way to improve the experience of "car deprivation."
(by the way, I agree with another poster here who expressed some dismay at the notion of "car deprivation"; I wouldn't keep a car if someone gave me one for free.)
