The poor are poor because they are either too inept to do proper cost projections or just too damn poor to buy things that would help them escape the poor life. A cheap bicycle will fight you too much; if you don't think so, go to Wal-Mart once in a while and, when you see a $50 or $90 clearance bicycle, buy it for a one month daily commuter. See how fast you want to go back to the car.

Ahh, Bluefoxicy. So full of wisdom, are we?

Many people, perhaps even you are only one really bad day away from being one of the "poor people" you talk about in your post.

Hopefully it never happens to you, but if it does, let us hope nobody looks down on you and says it is your own fault for being "too inept to do proper cost projections or just too damn poor to buy things that would help them escape the poor life." or that you "brought poverty upon yourself by your own ineptitude."

Yes, how those poor people do stink, unless of course, they are reaching out to lend you a hand when you are in a worse jam than them.

Life is funny. One day you can be on one side of the soup line with a ladle in your hand feeding the poor and the next you can be on the other side of the line with a bowl in your hand waiting for your turn to receive.
