it sounds like sram and campy 10s use a close-enough similar amount of cable pull per shift. However, this pull is very different from shimano. You'll need a shiftmate or similar to do what you're talking about.

However, from the sound of things, you could get away with a SRAM RD (they make apex and I think rival in a mid cage for larger cassettes.)
