According to my references, all 60XX alloys of aluminum are pretty close in yield strength and elongation rate. So, if that's what the two bikes are made of, there's pretty much no difference metal wise in the frame.
Most aluminum alloys used in a bike frame have about the same value for Young's modulus (defines stiffness).

All in all, I'd say the salesman is blowing smoke for some reason.
