I've never been hit by a car. I guess that means I have no reason to be concerned.

I have been nearly hit by cars, however.

Just last Wednesday an old lady nearly side-swiped me, but that was in an intersection, so maybe it doesn't count. Happened right after I had stopped for the light right in front of her car. She was absolutely oblivious to my presence. At the next light I hurriedly put on my hi-vis jacket, which I'd taken off because it was just too hot.

Last Monday or Tuesday an old person nearly side-swiped me in the middle of a road with a WOL. I don't ride super close to the right edge because there are some nasty bumps in the road (and recuments suck for bumpy roads) and there's a lot of foliage, especially thistles poking into the street. But I was not out in the lane, either. Nevertheless, some old person, afraid of the center line hugged the right hand edge of the road and there I was. And they were oblivious to my presence.

What do you think a motorist will do if he comes around a blind corner and suddenly sees you there. He's an impatient preson and decides to go for it and pass you, but oh no! It wasn't clear after all. Which will he choose:
a) Head-on with the car
b) Swerve into you, forcing you into the guard rail
