How often do cars drive by you within about a foot?

Lately I've been having this happen more frequently. I have not changed my route, or the time I travel, and I always claim the lane. I find it frustrating because many times the other lane is available for the car to simply change lanes.

I'm wondering if my situation is abnormal. On one road it has been happening on almost every commute (lately).
