As usual, I haven't read the whole thread; but I'm not sure what reaction the OP was expecting coming to the C&V forum with a Carbon Vs. Steel question. I'm a real swinger, I'll ride whatever is handy. The bike that I own that gets ridden most right now is a 10spd Alum, but if I could only have one bike to do anything on, it would have to be a steel sport/touring style bike. I'd like to own a plastic bike someday...just because, but I'd treat it with kid gloves and never use it for commuting. If your asking here, you must be half-way there. This thread surely must have tipped to over to steel by now.
