I invested a good bit of money and time in this current wheelset which has been great up to this failure. Within reason, I built these wheels to be as lightweight as possible while still maintaining (or so I thought) a decent amount of durability (hence 32 spokes). I expected the aluminum nipples would give me trouble eventually or that I might break some of the Revolution spokes. I did not expect my hub to split. This was my dream-wheelset build for my commuter. I couldn't dream up anything nicer/better, until now. That would be the same wheelset but no failing hubs for 30,000+ miles.

You'd think that the same punishment that caused a hub flange to split would have done some damage to the rim. But, the rims are still spotless. The cartridge bearings in the hubs are getting a little dry feeling but they still spin smoothly. I'll be replacing them on the rear hub soon. And I agree that aluminium nipples are more likely to fail than brass and that's a tradeoff I'm willing to accept. I wouldn't have said a word about a nipple failing; that would have been completely expected.
