I wouldn't say "hoard" but it's just that the bike components accumulate as various projects come and go. That is to say, it's not intentional, it just kind of happens.

However, I now have little cardboard boxes around in the garage that have marker identifiers for "pedals" or for "front derailluers" and certainly for "stems." The random accumulation therefore now has order enforced upon it (somewhat).

It has absolutely nothing to do with the state of the economy, or being able to find such things in the future. It's just the left-overs from previous projects laying in wait for still unknown projects to come.
