Great feedback - my experience was almost "normal," clear isn't really clear, but would be illegal even if it were, "very" bright is bad on group rides (I agree - I don't use my flashers on group rides), and "turbo" is an effective Superflash upgrade. And, lest I forget, the famed $200-300 Dinotte actually are better.

I'm going to do a Superflash Turbo, "seal" it somewhat with Vaseline, and use a retaining strap or rubber band.
