If it's any comfort, I've dealt with broken flanges on certain runs of Bontrager-branded, DT Swiss-built rear hubs. Some broke in use. Some broke while the bike was hanging up. One broke while the bike was still in the box, as we discovered when the owner finally decided he wanted his limited-edition 2004 Lance Edition Madone unsealed and built, after leaving it in storage with us for years. Awkward... sorry sir, your collectors'-edition Madone has chunks missing out of its rear hub flange.

Anyway, bummer about your wheelset I have that hub on my mountain bike's raceday wheelset, and picked it for the same reason: really lightweight. If you wanted something in that weight class with a higher-quality build, I guess there's Chris King...
