Last evening I was riding on the Boulevard de Freds, a divided road, not far from here:
Just ahead of me was a line of three cyclists (Heeding sage BikeForums wisdom, I left a gap and did not engage in uninvited wheelsucking).
As we passed an intersection, a blaring firetruck turned onto the road behind us.
We all moved to the right edge of the road (single file) and slowed, allowing the cacophonous vehicle ample room to pass.
About 3/4 of a mile down the road we came upon where the truck had stopped in the median to assist an injured person.
As the lead trio pedaled by, a fireman angrily yelled at them for not pulling over when the truck passed. (I stealthfully cruised by without receiving a similar rebuke).
I've not researched it, but I assume most state laws require cyclists to pull off to the side as motorized vehicles are supposed to do.
What do you do when a firetruck approaches? Do you pull completely over and stop? Or do you follow the spirit of the law more than the letter, as I did yesterday?
