Why would you, if you are flying solo, cover any attack? If you are a sprinter, you let others do the work of covering the attack, if you are a breakaway rider, you find the one that sticks and bridge. Even flying solo, there are ways of racing against larger teams. To each his own I guess, but really there are ways of factoring in a race even if you don't have any teammates.
