I don't like the lugless Peugeots; just don't look right to me. But I'm off topic.
In your situation, I have done all of the following:
Ridden home while pushing the dumpster bike alongside;
walked home pushing both bikes;
walked away pushing both bikes until I got to a suitable spot to stash the dumpster bike in the bushes; then ridden home and come back in the car;
ridden home, walked back and walked the dumpster bike home;
ridden home carrying part of the dumpster bike, such as a wheel, and come back in the car to get the rest;
ridden home and come back in the car to find the dumpster bike gone;
and probably others.
You did what you did; you lost nothing, and besides, there's no use in second guessing yourself. And someone else took it, so all's well that ends well.
