Upgrading From Triple Crank to Compact Crank

Quick question that I wasn't able to find a direct answer to in search...

I have a 2006 Felt SRD 72. Found here

Its not stock, but for the purposes of this discussion, all drivetrain components are stock.

I want to move to a compact crankset as I don't need the granny gears where I live and shifting a triple crank is not smooth no matter how much I adjust it.

So I have 2 questions, obviously, the 105 FD is 3 ring capable. Will I be able to adjust the limits to work with a 2 ring setup? And, I have the 12-25T stock 10 speed cassette. Are these too close for a compact setup or will it be fine?

I'm trying to do this without spending a whole lot of money. If I don't need a cassette or a new FD, I figure I can score a decent compact crank setup slightly used for $100-$150. I'm thinking a Shimano 105 or comparable from 1 or 2 years ago with minimal use should be fine.
