The bicycling bug has bit me hard and I'm scouting around for a decent used road bike to clean up and use for local riding. There is a Schwinn Traveler that appears to be late 70 / early 80's by my uneducated guess. If it is straight and in working order, approx what price would something like this be worth? I have little experience in knowing what bikes are of what grade when it gets to the older bikes and I'm probably going to be looking at it in person later this week. Any help would be appriciated. P.S. - I looked at a thread titled "how old is my schwinn traveler" in the bikeforums that google popped up with and this bike appears to be older than the '86 that was pictured in that thread. I will hopefully be able to find the exact date on the head tube stamping when I look at it.

Ok, here's the update. I went by the owner's house this afternoon to take a good look at the bike. It appears to be in good condition other than the tires/tubes and the bar tape. Both shifters/derailers work, rims are very close to true, brakes are in good condition. Only rust that I can see is a little around the headset. It does appear to be a late 70's model, though I could not locate any stamped location to find the serial number / date. It does state that it was made in Japan for Schwinn of Chicago. Rear Derailler is a Shimano 400.

Oh, and don't miss the serious retro lights set with rear wheel generator.
