You could just walk into a local bike shop of which I'm sure there must be a million in NYC and ask to test ride one of the SS/FG bikes they have. There are many options under $800 and it'll make it much easier for you to determine how it feels to ride the bike than just going by how it looks on the internet. It is a little bit more expensive though of course.
So stopped by my lbs today and tried their track single speed, one that looked similar to the ones above and they feel comfortable, the position. I ride a giant rapid 2 now which has an aluminum frame and it's fine so I guess a steel might be fine. I need a 56cm frame, anything above or below doesn't fit right. If I buy the Motobecane frame, how much would be to get the rest of the components? With decent stuff.
