The manufacturer worked with the shop to repair/replace the demo. No charge to the customer. He said they consider the occasional test-ride crash a cost of doing business.
I'm not at all surprised by this. Legally, you might be responsible for the damage but the shop is probably glad you didn't sue them!

It's nice that you bought a bike from them and it's nice that they were a good shop to buy a bike from!
