Google Map Directions and Modes of Transportation

Okay, I find this more than a little funny. I did a Google map for a seafood restaurant about 4 miles south of my location. Using Google map it's 4 miles straight down 4th street. Google maps if one is driving takes one right down 4th street, the same if they take the bus, or are walking, however if you're riding a bike. It takes you out of your way to get there.

Shouldn't the directions to get there be the same regardless of the mode of transportation that one uses?

About the only "advantage" I could see for taking Google map's recommendation for the bike route is that there is a bike lane, for all of 15 blocks on 1st street. But eventually 1st street becomes a narrow two lane road.
