All I saw was Wouter lying prone on the road on the Universal HD live broadcast this AM. It was about the most gruesome thing I've ever seen in 25+ years of following this sport. Not only is pro cycling the hardest pro sport in the world, it is arguably one of the most dangerous, right up there with auto racing. A very sad day for the sport, but days like this are inevitable given the ever-present risks, particularly in UCI racing.
Just brutal.
Respect the danger. It is a constant companion in road cycling, at all levels, particularly for those of you who race. Many of us have woken up in the hospital or in the ambulance. I've done both.
