Fortunately, they were cheapie performance quatro (or something like that, low end multi lens glasses) so I'm only out like $20-25.

I'm in the market for a replacement pair. I like having different lenses for different situations, but I hate carrying them all around with me if I'm riding and I know the conditions are going to change (morning/evening, stuff like that). Mainly (unless it's actually dark out) I ride with an amber lens or the darkest lens. Not liking to carry (and change out - especially if I've got dirty fingers) multiple lenses got me to thinking about those photochromic (I think that's what they're called) sunglasses that change darkness based on the amount of light outside.

Do they really work well? Enough so that I could use them as my only cycling glasses through a broad range of lighting conditions? I do have a couple of sets of nice safety glasses that I used to ride with if they're good for all conditions but actual night so I could go back to using the safety glasses when it's fully dark out.

Anybody have a good source or brand/model for a relatively inexpensive pair they like? I'd prefer not to go above say $50-60. As I mentioned I just lost a pair (though it lasted me a year) so I'd prefer not to drop a ton of cash on something I'd lose again and much above that and it'd be cheaper to buy two pairs of the generic el cheapo multilens and just keep the preferred lens in each and just grab the right one based on the conditions.

I absolutely love photochromic lenses because they work really well and eliminate the need to carry multiple lenses. I commute to work often and at different times of the year ride in the day then at night so they're a great. Tifosi makes some in your price range so check them out.
