Compared to California, Massachusetts women were hostile towards having a casual conversation with men they didn't know. Tough crowd..... I think it was the weather that made them so surly.

I believe it's a New England thing. Same experience, lived there for 15 years. They say New Yorkers are abrasive, but it was a whole lot easier/friendlier 225 miles south.
