Update: I've done the car/train/bike thing maybe half a dozen times now. (I make the trip only M/W/F of most weeks.) It has become routine, which is good. I found a decent route up the west bank of the Blackstone River. The bike part of the trip in has taken anywhere from 60 to 70 minutes. The run back in the afternoon takes about 55 minutes.

I've had one more flat, a tiny pinhole in the front tube for which I could find no cause. Popped another tube in, pumped it up and rode as hard as I could to catch the train home. I got to the station about 1 minute before the train was supposed to be there. No train. It was about 16 minutes late that day!

So far, so good!
