I agree with step one of washing with water.

But after that, I currently wipe the wound with an alcohol wipe and then apply “New Skin Liquid Bandage” to it immediately after the crash, no waiting until you get home. The New Skin has an antiseptic that hurts like hell, but it prevents infection.

I even put New Skin on an infection and it cleared it right up.
