I just got off the phone with the RPD-- very professional and likable. I explained how dangerous the officer's suggestions were. The officer in question is getting a very brief talking to about cyclist law, which I believe is really all this incident requires. I do not think there was malice on his part, just a mis-understanding of law-- and you certainly cannot expect an LEO to know every one of those. Hopefully that is the end of this situation, although I think sgoodri's list is a great starting point for further work on this issue.

I think this "incident" could in fact be a positive.
