My First Day in Tights and Got Yelled At!

Well... I finally did it. I went all the way and purchased a set of bicycle tights from Performance. I used to tell myself I will never look like those cycling geeks in the park but here I am, four years later, decked out exactly like the person I've been trying to avoid.

Anyway. I noticed the cars treated me differently the moment I wore tights! I found they actually EXPECT you to pedal faster and are afraid to pass on city streets. I think it's because cyclist outfitted in full cycling gear is unpredictable and the motorist will take more caution in passing. It's true. When I wore regular clothes on my hybrid, the cars had no trouble in going around me because in their minds, I was considered a slow moving vehicle. Now that I'm wearing tights, the cars expect me to go full speed and ride like Lance Amstrong to the finish line! Needless to say, I like to smell the roses and travel at my own pace and that's when the problems came.

A car behind me did not want to pass yet I was going slow enough for him to do so. Instead, the driver just stuck his head out and began calling me obscenities. This almost never happens to me and I'm not used to being yelled at! Anyway. I'm putting the tights back in the box and I'll order baggy shorts from Performance. It's now starting to make sense why there's so much road rage against cyclist and it may very well be the way we dress.

Just wanted you guys/girls to know what happend.
