I used to ride a Jamis Dakar and the difference is like night and day. Now-the Jamis was a 2005 model and I'm sure the advances in geometry from then until now make a big difference in ride quality. For instance the Giant is much more slack and feels much more stable on descents.
I work at a shop and have ridden a lot of high end bikes and I can honestly say that the Trance rides as well as any of the uber-expensive boutique frames out there. For the money I just don't know if you can beat it.
Is that the Trance X3? Sorta guessing by the paint scheme. I checked out a Trek Fuel EX8, and will probably look towards a Specialized Camber, but like the component setup on the Trek and Giant a little better. So far the Trek is in the lead, though I haven't gotten around to riding any yet. You're not making my decision any easier.
