I have used gel pads on previous bikes with a harsher ride. I am not a fan of gel pads though and gave a set to a fellow riding partner who has a bike with a rougher ride.
I don't wear gloves either unless its cold outside. No problems here with hand pain...mostly due to the bike and good fit.
