I see making a spring isn't that hard at all. I've got to try THIS someday!

Perhaps with a bit of experimentation with different types of wire and maybe heat-treating it is possible to get a new spring that matches what you already have. I'll have to keep this in mind. You have my interest piqued with this problem.
