In my case I am more interested in average speed, as I think that tells you more about how you rode overall. Yesterday I hit an average speed of 14.3 MPH during my morning commute, a PB for me on that route. I would like to get it up to 15 in time. I should mention that about 13 of the miles I commute are on MUP. Afternoon commute is always a bit slower due to increased MUP traffic. If I can keep my average speed in the 13's it feels respectable. I hope to continue improving on my average speed as my weight goes down.
That was me yesterday. I guess I better come up with some better long-term goals because I averaged 15.6 MPH on the way in this morning!
I realize that almost everyone here is talking about top end speed rather than average. My top end this morning was 25.7. Again, on a 20+ mile ride I am not going to blow myself up on a sprint.
