I agree with you regarding the "kit" as you call it. I think that cyclists get a bad reputation. We should "ride on the sidewalks" and "get off the road." But if we dress like Lance, we tend to get that much needed respect. I think that you have to dress the part, and the only reason you shouldn't is if you're new to the sport and/or can't afford to do so. But if you have the gear, use it. To heck with the motorists. If they can pass a tractor, they can pass a bike. That's my theory!
