No sure way to totally secure your home or belongings, just deter and frustrate/delay them and bring attention to them while theft occurs. If they are determined, they will proceed. One thief ran a a stolen car through an owner's garage door to gain access to his bikes and motorcycles.

I shackle my garage doors and deadbolt my access door when we're all out of the house. An alarm with a lot of sirens and flashing lights help a bit.
Good relations with neighbors and a cooperative attitude is invaluable.
As mentioned, the best way and the preferred way down here is big dogs!!
