All of these problems and more could be solved (or at least minimized) with separated bike lanes (bike lanes with a physical barrier between the road and the bike lane).
It might take awhile to get designated bikeways implemented everywhere.
In the meantime, it would be safer and less disruptive to hold these slow rides on the MUP. If CM went this route, the public perception of them would change overnight...
