One compromise I'm going to make right off: the wheelset. I have a really nice Ukai tubular/Sunshine high flange wheelset in stock. I think I'll use it until the right wheelset and/or rims come along AND I get the bike fund somewhat replenished.
Would the right wheel set be tubulars? Are you trying to get as close to original or at least what was available in 1974? I have yet to try them and probably never will, clinchers work well for me, but I can see the appeal if you are trying to get as close to original as possible.
