Some of the things that I would like to have in the bike:
1) Internal Gear Hub (most that I've seen in my budget range doesn't have this)
2) Fold doesn't have to be small, but it should be easy enough to carry up a flight of stairs and into an elevator
3) 20" wheels
4) Easy Maintenance
For your intended uses, go look at a Dahon Curve D3 .. it comes stock with Schwalbe 2.0 Big Apple Tires which will give you a much more stable, supple ride than on many 20" 406 folders .. the fold is tiny .. it's relatively light weight .. simple 3 speed hub gear... rides great .. you can run a squeaky clean chain with a minimum of lube as the chain doesn't have to run up and down sprockets .. and it can be found around the web at sale prices.. one quick search came up with a
Marine Supply Company selling them for $512+$20 shipping .. but I would buy local if at all possible .. and it could be a candidate for belt drive down the road
