It's easy to tell if a part is anodized. If you polish with the Mother's your rag will turn black with use on the non-anodized aluminum. If it's anodized you won't see the black on the rag.

Be careful sanding aluminum. The dust is not something you want to breathe. Use the wet sanding technique, preferably outdoors.
