I went like 2500 miles on my old bike in between lubing my chain no problem (I don't recommend this, but it did work fine), I can't imagine why decently upkept chain would absolutely need greasing/WD40 during a Century.
no kidding! i would rather ride with a noisy skweeky chain then put wd40 on mine.
