I'll jump in on this thread and say thanks for all of the links. I have a sneaking feeling I'll be puchasing a couple pair of 27"-ers for a couple of old road bikes I should be purchasing this weeknd. One is a Schwinn Traveler, the other a Nishiki sport. I wasn't able to read the sidewalls of the old tires, but with their age I'm going to guess that they are 27's.
