I'd totally say something like that in your shoes. Would only take one comment. Sadly, my friends give me grief for cycling so much and then killing it with an unhealthy diet. Cant say anything to that
To the family - I'd either ignore or state something to the effect of "I like it, you can go stick it" (in varied stages of nice, depending on who was saying it, what their intent was, etc).
