Noise under hard pedalling only??

Hmm, not sure where to go with this. It's a 2011 Trek Madone 5.9 with about 1000 miles on in. At lower cadence (60-70) while pedaling hard I get a ticking noise almost like the chain trying to jump to another gear. Once I get spinning in the 75-100 rpm range no noise. It's also there when I pedal hard while leaning into a turn and while standing sometimes. Looking down there seems to be plenty of clearance for the chain as it goes through the FD but I'm not sure if I'd really see the rub.

I figure I can swap out my other pedals easy enough tomorrow to make sure that's not the problem but what else should I check? I'm thinking BB but how likely is that?

I used to get a creaking noise on my LeMond sometimes but that was a loose chainring bolt and sounded quite different if my memory is correct.

Any ideas what else to look at?

LBS can't get me in until Monday. I really wanted to do some long rides with it this weekend that includes a couple of 5 mile climbs over a mountain but don't want to take the risk of damaging anything.

thanks!
