I have no regrets about switching to nine speed.
All the parts I used (save for the cassette and chain) were "hand-me-downs" from component upgrades on my trail bike.
8 speed hubs take 9 speed cassettes
I now only need to keep one model of chain in
my
personal stock
I've also had much better luck with the 9 speed drivetrain in terms of durability than with my old 8 speed system (Your Mileage May Vary)
